Vienna Walking Week is an experiment to see how new, foreign and fun Vienna can be, for locals. We want to re-imagine travel, since it makes no sense to fly away so often - and use so much carbon. Can we find these thrilling feelings of trips, while only riding on the U1?... We think so.
Every city has its bright points and its darker spots. For many Viennese, Favoriten remains a foreign and strange place. We want to show how modern, green and connected SüdFavoriten can be. It is accessible, dynamic and new. The Freedom Party love to hate this part of town, as too diverse and brown. But that is exactly why we at Whoosh love it.
We will discover how lively, villagey and sweet Favoriten can be, where it connects with niederoesterreich. Our tour includes Therme Wien, Oberlaa, a swimming lake, der Grünemarkt, Barbara-Prammer-Hof (the first Gemeindebau of the 21st Century), Zukunftshof cool art factory (which used to be called Gugumuck/Haschahof), Per-Albin-Hansson-Hof (the largest social-housing project in Wien), public art, a roxy golf course, many Heuriger, and a university.
In every year of Vienna Walking Week, we show you one district inside the Guertel - this year Leopoldstadt - and a less-explored Viertel outside the Beltway.
