In an age of polarisation, climate change and war, we need the European Union more than ever. Whoosh wants to celebrate the EU parliamentary elections in 2024, with a tour looking at how Brussels funding has helped shape the look of our city. So we tour the best new EU-financed projects, and explore the ways in which Vienna and Austria have changed since accession in 1995.

We want to encourage everybody to vote for their European representatives in these days – 6-9 June 2024 – but also to reflect on the value of a progressive, liberal force in a time of Chinese nationalism and US arrogance.

Tour guide Eugene is British (with Irish parents), living in Austria, and so in some ways an EU story. Since UK left EU in 2021, he cannot vote in any elections here, but would love to. And so he organised a Brexit night sad party for the Brits in Vienna, to show how angry they were (but with rather fine music from the island, in Tube Station pub in Landstrasse), and a Brexit tour, to show the productive ways UK and Austria have intercultural dialogue (Freud, pubs, Julia Ebner & FM4).

We hope to welcome Silje Tillner on this walk, who will show us some of her cool interventions on Westgürtel, part-financed b< European Commission.
