Gender Planning in Wieden, with Julia Girardi of Magistratsabteilung Stadtentwicklung & Stadtplanung, & Eugene. This tour will focus on a person who should be much better known in Vienna, Eva Kail.
Eva recently retired, but she was a pioneer of gender justice, and a city which is more inclusive and welcoming in its design. This used to be known as gender-mainstreaming.
Vienna is recognised internationally as a pioneer city for its approach to including women’s needs into planning and budget decisions. The city has experimented with many progressive ideas, from angst-free social-housing to sports and recreation spaces where girls also feel safe. Please join us for a look into the past, present and future of Vienna, and how the city seeks more social justice through better public space, mobility, nature, comfort and a more friendly, social, supportive place to live. We look forward to hearing your perspectives. And this is a lovely place to walk through. We originally conceived this tour as a tribute to Eva Kail, who is retiring, and you will hear so much about her on the walk.
This is part of a series Eugene has made, about important Vienna women, starting with Hedy Lamarr, then Johanna Dohnal, Toni Spira, and next year, Alma Mahler.
And our tour is one of 16 we will make in Vienna Walking Week, our modern celebration of Vienna in summertime.
