Alsergrund is a diverse, lively, but often villagey central district. It still votes red, and is dominated by the University of Vienna and the AKH. But we will of course go beyond the familiar to new spaces around Spittelau and the old Economics University, Summer Stage on Donaukanal and VinziRast, to Sigmund Freud and Hundertwasser, Votivkirche and new U2/U5 build, Otto Wagner (stations, palace, church and theatre) and Servitenviertel (the most French part of town), beautiful Sobieskiplatz and green, restful Bertha-Löwi-Weg, to Palais Liechtenstein, WUK and Volksoper, some traditional and hip cafes, the University of Vienna campus, and Med Uni, Franz-Josef Station and American embassy, Gürtel bars and Rossauer Barracks, Narrenturm and Strudelhofstiege. Why is it called Alsergrund?, why Pamela Rendi-Wagner's first challenger came from SPÖ here?, and of course some lost places, like on all our tours. It is a lively, spicy mix, and makes this a colourful, pretty walk.
Club Melange is a relocation group run by Recom Relocation, who help the international community settle in Vienna (among them many diplomats). And so Eugene has been invited to introduce various neighbourhoods to these new arrivals - among them many exiles from Trump's new USA, & Putin's Russia.
We explore places more deeply, with humour, politics, community and stories. And a drink in a cafe later on. Book through Club Melange website, and listen to their fine podcasts about Vienna details.
