Urban Future is the largest smart city event in Europe, changing cities each year. Whoosh has been a part of nearly all of them, from Norway to Poland.

This year, as part of a session on Just Streets EU Horizon project, we will look at street transformation through the lens of justice, entitled Flip the Script on Streets.

Eugene has been invited to kick-off the discussion, with a lively PowerPoint on the theme of adapting street space into something more interesting and social than just cars. To go deeper into the idea of walking and experiencing streets in new ways - including his theory of street capital. He will bring humour and provocation to a widely debated topic, where the automobile lobby and car drivers seem to shout the loudest. And then he will moderate the discussion.

We will explore how cities 'align top-down leadership and bottom-up momentum, and on how a shared vision of a just street, a clear strategic direction and credible communication help make street transformation understandable, legitimate and workable in practice. We want to open the space, challenge assumptions and wake everyone up.'

Among the other speakers, Enrica Papa (It), Professor on mobility justice at the University of Westminster (UK), bringing in the Just Streets perspective on justice in everyday street use; city / practice perspective from Heinrich Strößenreuter of GermanZero lobbying group (invited); and an impulse on communication, from the Just Streets project leadership - Giulia Melis/Francesca Blanc - focusing on how street change is communicated top-down and bottom-up.
