Something different. Vienna has the most famous soundtrack of any city in the world. We will celebrate this on a walk looking at ten songs from our home city, exploring how place inspired the tune. And of course we will listen to those tunes. From Mozart to Mahler, Skero to Andre Heller & Wolfgang Ambros, Hans Moser to Oska, Conchita to Der Nino aus Wien, and Kreiml & Samurai to Monica Reyes. You won't know all the songs yet, but will come to love them, and enjoy the storytelling - about cafes, love, death, legendary nights and dirty bars.

Guide Eugene is a DJ all over Vienna (Arena, Fluc, Rathaus, Klub Ost), and interested in the power of music to transform public space and people - into happenings and joy. Music evokes memories, emotions and can lift our mood and comfort us. Just look at how it is used in dementia care, to reach people who otherwise have lost all memory.

We see no problem in mixing up 250 years of music into one package, and hope you are equally curious. And it references the upcoming Eurovision weekend, since that is also about music and place, both the host city and the ways that each country chooses to represent itself. We often do not care where music comes from, but this tour is about identity, belonging and city-branding.

Not so easy to choose just ten songs. I would have loved to include something from Kerosin95 or Ken Hayakawa’s Wien bei Nacht, Willi Landl or Hermann Leopoldi. And you may notice there is no Falco, or Strauss, Third Man or Wanda. We avoided many cliches (and Eugene already makes a 5 hour Falco tour, which is enough). Our focus here is mostly on modern music, since Eurovision is a pop fest.

This is a premiere, to explore the city in its warmer months, in a way just as interesting to locals as outsiders, romantic, but also reimagining travel in a less stressful and more storytelling way.

This tour is longer, and something of an odyssey into the real city. Feel free to drop in or out, if you are pressed for time. But we recommend you make space for us. It will be special.

We will repeat this event on 27 July, 2026, in German.
