This is a celebration of urban walking, through Hernals, which is not so often explored.
Eugene made a TED Talk near Volkstheater in 2016, exploring urban walking in Vienna, and this tour is a practical extension of this event, in the West of our city.
We will show new technology like walkscore.com, and discuss why so few people join tours around their home town, but love exploring foreign cities on foot, as a group. How is it that people meet friends for walks in green spaces like forests, parks or lakes - but not in more urban spaces?
People see walking as slow and inefficient, but they are so wrong. You can work so much better, if you use walking as part of problem-solving and developing new ideas.
On urban walks, you have toilets, cafes if you get hungry, you meet people you know (which rarely happens in forests & mountains), can find shelter in a storm, support the local economy, and it is so good for your mental health to walk. And Vienna is a safe, beautiful, varied, lively place to walk. I will explain my theory of Social Capital at the end. It is a dialogue walk, with many stories. This is for sure a feminist, LGBTQIA+-acknowledging, liberal and joyous, inclusive event. #everybodyiswelcome&acknowledged
