After our popular Bruno Kreisky – „Demokratie Überall“ Wien-Tour in May, we follow up with a walk looking at his early life, before the Garenbaukino premiere of a film about Kreisky's early life in Margareten, Wieden and Landstrasse.
We continue our cooperation with Bruno Kreisky Forum, and this is just the second of many tours on different themes across several
walks. Starting with democracy, we now focus on a less well-known episode of his life - though he was political from a very early age. This
tour is sure to be popular, and we seek reservations to the email address below.
At a time when democracy is under pressure in many new ways, we present a walk through Vienna, showing how Bruno Kreisky offered solutions for our current problems. He was the most influential and respected leader of Austria’s second republic, and this storytelling tour will look at his early life and work, and how he continues to influence our lives in Vienna in 2026.
This is part of a series of tours where we - Kreisky Forum and Whoosh - will show just how relevant his ideas are. So who was he, where did he come from, and why is there a rock band and a cool Vienna bar named after him? Why was his name and number in the telephone book? How did sport play a role in his life?
He brought international influence to Austria, attracting both OPEC and UN to our home city, and thought differently to those around him.
Our critical urban adventure will visit his school, park, home, prison, Vorwärtshaus and statue, and look at his relationship with contemporaries.
We will be joined by Sabine Kroissenbrunner, Secretary General of the Bruno Kreisky Forum, and we hope, the head of Kreisky's office, 1970-83, Margit Schmid.
We hope to build new bridges and networks after the walk, with time together in Gartnebaukino.
