In cooperation with WU researcher Judith Kohlenberger (who specialises in the economic value of refugees and asylum-seekers), the university will join Whoosh in presenting the Austrian Citizenship as a playful Pub Quiz, to see how integrated you Austrians are in your own country, and how many of you could get your own passport, if you needed to. With this, we turn the whole migration debate around, and shine a light on the knowledge and sense of belonging which locals feel.
Come and discover the bizarre questions in the Test, which all of us foreigners must know, to get a vote here in the Alpine Republic. Many Austrians are shocked when they see what obscure knowledge is necessary, and how Kafkaesque the process is to become a local, with rights. Olga Kosanovic showed us the strange hurdles in the way of us foreigners, in her clever film from last year, Noch Lange Kein Lippizaner (and even filmed us making the quiz, when we were making it in Mustafa's hardcore drinking bar Cafe Gaertner on Karmelitermarkt, in late 2023). From 56 countries tested, Austria comes 54th in terms of difficulty of getting a passport (behind Saudi and UAE). After our collaboration with Vienna Design Week, WienWoche, Fluc, Erste Bank Vermehrt Schönes and Caritas Wien, Wien Museum and Roxcel printers, here comes the latest edition of our gamified politics in Vienna. The Irish pub we have chosen, Long Hall, is authentically Irish, and atmospheric, next to the largest prison in Austria, in Josefstadt. Please join us - alongside students and teachers from the WU.
There will of course be beer, and music.
This is a serious political project, dressed up as a fest.
